Uploading a Chrome Extension in Developer Mode: A Step-by-Step Guide
Preparation:
Ensure you've downloaded the desired Chrome extension, which should typically be in a .zip format.
Extract the .zip file to a location on your computer. This will create a folder containing the extension's files.
Open Chrome Browser:
Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer.
Access the Extensions Page:
Click on the three vertical dots (⋮) located at the top-right corner of the browser to open the Chrome menu.
Hover over 'More Tools' to reveal a submenu.
From the submenu, click on 'Extensions'. This will open a new tab displaying all your installed extensions.
Enable Developer Mode:
On the 'Extensions' page, locate the 'Developer mode' toggle switch in the top-right corner.
Switch it on. This will reveal additional developer options, including 'Load unpacked', 'Pack extension', and 'Update'.
Upload the Extension:
Click on the 'Load unpacked' button.
A file dialog will appear. Navigate to the location where you extracted the Chrome extension folder.
Select the extracted folder (not the .zip file) and click 'Open' or 'Select Folder' (the exact wording may vary based on your operating system).
Verify Installation:
Once uploaded, the extension will appear in the list of installed extensions on the 'Extensions' page.
You should see its icon, name, version, and other details. Ensure the extension is enabled by checking that the toggle switch next to it is in the 'On' position.
Using the Extension:
The extension's icon should now be visible in the Chrome toolbar, near the address bar. Click on it to access its features or settings.
